WOODS

The art of wood carving is very ancient and equally noble.

For millennia, artisan artists have dedicated themselves to creating sculptures that lacked only breath to be alive. The workshops were thriving and, based on their names, also very important.

Commissions were the order of the day, and the Church was certainly among the most important patrons. Today, this noble art has been almost lost; it takes too much time to handcraft a sculpture, and what would it cost?

Wood has always fascinated me. If I hadn't been a goldsmith, I would have carved wood.

This is why I enthusiastically attended a woodcarving course years ago and why I now alternate my works with roots that I personally collect in the woods and then clean and polish, combining them with rare crystals.

Of course, I'm certainly not a wood artist—a cherub would probably come out rather ugly—but I like to "clean" wood, removing dirt and nothing else. Like all my works, they are simply elements of nature that I assemble, hopefully harmoniously.
